براساس اعلام ناتو، چهار امدادگری که ماه گذشته در شمال افغانستان ربوده شده بودند، توسط نیروهای این سازمان آزاد شده‌اند.

ناتو در بیانیه‌ای اعلام کرده است که دو زن تبعه خارجی و دو تبعه افغانستان روز جمعه، اول ژوئن (۱۲ خرداد) در جریان عملیاتی نظامی در ولایت بدخشان آزاد شده‌اند.

یکی از دو تبعه خارجی یک متخصص تغذیه بریتانیایی و دیگری کنیایی است و بر اساس گزارش‌ها، هر دوی آنها هم‌اکنون در کابل، پایتخت افغانستان هستند.

دو تبعه افغانستان هم که به همراه این دو نفر به گروگان گرفته شده بودند، به خانواده‌هایشان پیوسته‌اند.

نیروهای نظامی آمریکایی و بریتانیایی مستقر در افغانستان با کمک نیروهایی از وزارت کشور افغانستان این عملیات را اجرا کرده‌اند.

گروگان‌های آزادشده از جمله ۵ نفری بودند که از طرف گروه امدادگر سوئیسی مدایر به افغانستان رفته و روز ۲۲ ماه مه توسط شورشیان به گروگان گرفته شده بودند.

ناتو اعلام کرده است که در جریان عملیاتی که برای آزادی این افراد انجام شد، تمام گروگانگیرها که پنج نفر بودند، کشته شده‌اند.

با آن که در ابتدا گزارش‌هایی از آزادی هر پنج نفر گروگان منتشر شد، ولی هنوز سرنوشت گروگان پنجم که تبعه افغانستان است، نامشخص مانده است.

ناتو اعلام کرده است: "گروه نجات با یک هلی‌کوپتر و بعد از اطمینان از حضور گروگان‌ها در محل، به منطقه اعزام شد و بعد از تامین امنیت در محل، با اجرای عملیات نجات، تمام چهار نفر گروگان را با موفقیت آزاد کرد."

بر اساس اعلام ناتو، عملیات نجات زمانی انجام شد که گروگانگیرها در حال انتقال گروگان‌ها به مناطق دورافتاده بودند.
